If you want to buy a television or a large appliance at Leclerc, the budget is tight, and you wonder if the payment can be spread over several installments. The answer is yes, but the specific conditions often make the difference between an accepted payment and a silent refusal at the time of order validation.
Regulatory change for installment payments in 2026
The current pages of Leclerc present the 3x or 4x as a simple payment option. This presentation will change. Starting November 20, 2026, the European directive (EU) 2023/2225 on consumer credit, transposed in France by ordinance n° 2025-880 of September 3, 2025, brings installment payments into the realm of consumer credit.

Specifically, even a 3x “without fees” on a vacuum cleaner costing 150 euros will be legally considered as credit. The buyer will become a borrower in the legal sense, with the protections that come with it: standardized information, creditworthiness assessment, right of withdrawal, and display of the APR.
For us, on the shopping cart side, this means that the payment process in multiple installments will be more regulated starting late 2026. We can expect additional steps during validation, and potentially more frequent refusals if the creditworthiness profile does not pass the new filters. A detail that current guides do not address, even though it directly concerns anyone who regularly uses this option on the Leclerc site.

When looking into the detailed terms, particularly the fees applied and the accepted cards, installment payments at Leclerc rely on a partnership with a third-party financial organization that manages the entire process.

Minimum amount and actual fees for 3x and 4x at Leclerc
It is often read “without fees” in large print on product sheets, but the legal mention tells a different story. Installment payments at Leclerc are operated by FLOA. Fees do indeed exist:
- For 3 installments, a fee of 1.50% of the purchase amount applies. On a cart of 300 euros, this represents 4.50 euros spread over the installments.
- For 4 installments, the fees rise to 2.25% of the amount. The same cart of 300 euros then costs an additional 6.75 euros.
- The minimum amount to access installment payments is 100 euros for products in stock. Below this, the option simply does not appear.
These fees are not subject to consumer credit regulations (at least until November 2026). The first payment occurs on the day of purchase, followed by subsequent payments at regular intervals.
Eligible products and exclusions on the Leclerc site
Not all items on the e.Leclerc site are eligible for installment payments. This restriction tends to be discovered at the time of payment, which generates frustration. Here are the rules to know before adding anything to the cart.
Only products marked “in stock” are eligible. Pre-ordered items or those shipped in several days are not eligible. Alcohol is excluded, as are products sold via Click & Collect 2h and those from the marketplace (partner sellers).
In practice, this means that if you order a mixed lot (one product in stock + one marketplace item), the 3x or 4x option may be blocked for the entire cart. The solution is to place two separate orders, isolating the eligible items.
Bank cards compatible with installment payments
Another common blockage point: the bank card. Only Visa and MasterCard cards are accepted for installment payments. Visa Electron, American Express, e-cards, and Nickel accounts do not work.
The card used must also have an expiration date that covers at least the duration of the financing. For a 4x payment, the card must be valid for at least two months after the order. If you are nearing card renewal, it is better to check before validating.

Réglo Finance Card: the alternative renewable credit at Leclerc
Beyond the classic 3x/4x by bank card, Leclerc offers the Réglo Finance Cpay Mastercard, linked to a renewable credit managed by BNP Paribas Personal Finance. This is a product different from simple installment payments.
The renewable credit ranges from 120 to 4,500 euros, usable either in cash or on credit at the holder’s choice. It can be used in physical stores as well as online. The card itself is free, but the interest on renewable credit is significantly higher than the fees for 3x/4x.
Opinions vary on this point: some customers appreciate the flexibility to spread food purchases or small equipment under the 100 euros threshold (where 3x is not accessible). Others find themselves with a balance that accumulates without realizing it. Using this card requires particular vigilance regarding the remaining balance owed.
Management of unpaid debts and refunds after installment payments
When a bank card is declined or a payment fails, the situation is managed through the Oney customer space (the financial partner of FLOA for tracking). You must activate your Oney account beforehand, which many customers neglect at the time of purchase.
In case of order cancellation after an installment payment, the refund follows the reverse circuit: the already collected installments are returned, and future installments are canceled. The refund period depends on the banking organization, not directly on Leclerc.
For an in-store purchase with the Réglo Finance card, the procedure goes through BNP Paribas Personal Finance customer service. Two distinct circuits depending on the chosen installment payment method, not to be confused under penalty of wasting time with the wrong contact.
Installment payments at Leclerc remain accessible and relatively simple, provided you check three things before clicking: the product is in stock and not from the marketplace, the card is Visa or MasterCard with sufficient validity, and the cart exceeds 100 euros. Starting late 2026, these checks will be supplemented by a mandatory creditworthiness assessment, which could significantly change access to this option.
